Managing Budgets and Spending
What Is a Budget?
A budget sets a monthly spending limit for a category. Each month, as you add transactions of that type, the budget tracks how much you've spent versus your limit.
Setting Up a Budget
- Go to Budgets in the menu.
- Click Add Budget.
- Choose a transaction type (e.g. Groceries) and set your monthly limit in euro.
- Click Save.
You can create as many budgets as you need — one per spending category is typical.
Reading the Budget Page
Each budget row shows:
- Spent — how much you've spent in this category this month.
- of €X — your monthly limit.
- Progress bar — fills from green to orange to red as you approach and exceed the limit.
- Percentage — spent as a percentage of the limit.
Status Colours
| Colour | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green | Under 90% spent — on track |
| Orange | 90–100% spent — approaching the limit |
| Red | Over 100% spent — over budget |
Editing or Deleting a Budget
Use the ⋮ menu on any budget row to change the monthly limit or delete the budget.
Tips
- Start with your biggest spending categories (rent, groceries, dining).
- Review your budgets monthly after payday to adjust limits if needed.
- The dashboard stat card shows an overall budget status — red means at least one category is over budget.
